My Life's Passion

My Passion for Volleyball
I have developed a passion for volleyball since a young age and attended many volleyball camps, playing club for Boston UVC, Lionheart, and getting accepted by CMASS Nationals. This year, I am honored to get into Dana Hall’s Varsity Volleyball team as the only eighth grader. My job as a defensive specialist is to dig balls up and cover the blocks. As a team, we won against schools such as Philips Andover, St Pauls and many more strong teams! The musical notes of the cello have also been woven into my life.

My Passion for Cello
The cello, from my perspective, is the best instrument as it could provide a grand vibrato sound, or playful bouncy tunes, both melodious to the ears. I have played many pieces such as the Haydn Cello C Major Concerto that I am working on currently. This year, I am fortunate to become the first cellist in the Youth Repertory Orchestra in the New England Conservatory, and even have a little solo with the Moldau piece! But this means harder practices in both the orchestra and my own pieces, and we can’t skip the scales or the arpeggios.

As the
co-president ...
I participated in the student council as 7th grade representatives last year. We hosted fun and successful games such as dodgeball and captured the flag throughout the school year. We started an advisory door decorating contest with only recyclable materials to raise awareness for green action, and the winner of the contest gets 50 munchkins for advisory! I also suggested an idea in which all seventh graders make an eighth grader a letter during their moving up ceremony into the high school, and the event was met with hugs and “awws” from the eighth graders. Now, I was honored to be elected as one of the Middle School Co-Presidents, representing the middle school in meetings and getting feedback from the grades to help make Dana a better place. I have some great ideas in mind, such as conjoining upper and middle school sports/music for a few days throughout the school year, as middle school students always look up to upper school students for advice.

As an Editor ...
I have also joined the middle school newspaper as an editor this year. Our newspaper is called Setting Sail, where you can send artworks or writings to the editing team, and they will pick out some to publish at the end of the year. The editing team consists of only eighth grade students, but I always wanted to be published in a newspaper as I love writing, and so submitted many pieces of work during 6th and 7th grade. Last year, my essay, “Oops, I forgot” and haikus, “Descendants”, “Audible” were published within 8 articles, and I was the only one to have two pieces of work in the newspaper.
